Brief description of your persona: Freydis is the daughter of a member of the Danish embassy to Spain and, as a result, fences in the Spanish rather than the Italian style. When not wielding a blade she has an unhealthy interest in mathematics, artillery, astronomy, cryptography, alchemy and many other renaissance sciences.
When you started fighting: 2002
Started fighting because: I saw far too many Musketeers and Errol Flynn movies as a child and always wanted to try this sword and dagger thing. This got worse as I grew older and gained the desire for my own lightsabre. I tried sport fencing at university but my knees weren't up to it. Then I came to the SCA and mentioned this and Lord Antonio mentioned that the Spanish form of fencing put much less stress on the knees. So I tried and got hooked.
Any advice you would give a new lady fencer: Fight to win, but more importantly fight to enjoy yourself. That way the inevitable initial defeats don't seem as hard and the victories, when they come, will be all the sweeter.
