When you started fighting: My first event was the very first Rent A Don, where on I tested for my first authorisation - impressive when you conisder I learnt the rules on the train ride up and had only been practising rapier for two whole weeks!
Started fighting because: I had tried strip fencing, and completely hated it! So it was with some trepidition that I agreed with the American across the hall to try out rapier. But as soon as I set my feet upon the field, I loved it! So much in fact, that I made a trip across the country to meet the SCA and to fight with others!
Any advice you would give a new lady fencer: Don't be afraid to ask questions, it's very normal to feel like crying after a fight and you don't have to be brilliant, you just have to enjoy it! Oh, and practice make perfect!
